Fred Harvey Era Thunderbird Cuff
Fred Harvey Era Thunderbird Cuff
This Fred Harvey Era cuff bracelet is a great example of unmarked souvenir jewelry from the mid century, collected and treasured by multiple generations of travelers.
This particular bracelet came to me in a set of three of similar design owed by someone here in Wichita, Kansas. Upon researching, this bracelet is identical to one hallmarked “Sanderson”, although it has no hallmarks itself, and is dated around 1950-60. It is made in 925 Sterling Silver, in an “appliqué” style, quickly and efficiently out of premade pieces.
It features a turquoise stone in a round shape in a lovely shade of dark, moss green. The cabochon is set in a beaded round bezel with bright sterling thunderbirds flanking it laterally on each side.
The bracelet is a cuff style, and very small, fitting a 6.5 wrist well; it will be too small for a size 7 to fit comfortably and has warped to fit the previous owners wrist. It would look great stacked with permanent silver jewelry or other turquoise cuffs and, although it has been buffed slightly to determine its age and qualities, the originally patina is still intact, indicating it’s 30+ years of use.
